The Challenge
In the Netherlands, Kijkwijzer is a well-known concept, but outside the borders, it’s mainly the pictograms that are recognized. Kijkwijzer asked us to come up with a commercial suitable for all European countries. Until recently, Kijkwijzer only produced animated films, but we were given the challenge to create a genuine live-action script.
Because many Europeans have no idea what some pictograms mean, we came up with the concept 'Rate the Scene'. A very simple way to show 3 situations and rate them using Kijkwijzer icons. Parents are often unaware of the content their children are consuming when they are behind a screen. In our video, we illustrate this by showing a girl switching between different channels, with each channel featuring a unique scene and its corresponding rating. The commercial is set in an abstract, stylized living room, intentionally designed to avoid referencing specific styles or countries.
